Najera and Najerilla

The morning again cloudy. Went to Logronyo (Logroños), the capital of the province of La Rioja (Rioja). Anybody remotely familiar with Spanish knows the wines of Rioja. And I have to say, Rioja wines of Navarre are much better, they are even difficult to compare.

Logronio was an old settlement of the Romans called Area. He then became the commercial centre of the Celts. From the 10th century, the territory of Lagrange disputed between the kings of Navarre and Castile and, in the end, the region is finally passed into the hands of the kings of Castile. In 1095 Alfonso VI of Castile created in Lagrange proregulus Charter, which served as a model for other Spanish cities. In 1609 and 1610 logroño was the main seat extending over the witches and wizards, became part of the Spanish Inquisition. It was here in the early XVII century, developed the Basque witch-hunt — the most high-profile case of the Spanish Holy Inquisition.

And besides Logrono is one of the points on the Camino de Santiago (Camino de Santiago), a pilgrimage route that leads to the relics of Saint James in the Galician city of Santiago de Compostela.

The way of St. James is sometimes called the "Road of Stars" or "Starry road", as the ancient pilgrims of the night guided by the stars, and the milky way showed them the direction. Distributed among the pilgrims is also very simple term for the Way - Camino (from the Spanish camino - which means "path, road"). As Santiago - Saint Jacob in Spanish (Santiago)

Rules of passing on the Camino de Santiago are: every pilgrim can obtain the pilgrim passport (credencial), where he will put a special print that will be witnessesthe government on the right path. Print can be supplied in almost all hotels (shelters) on the way, as well as in churches and monasteries. To get a credencial in the beginning in one of the shelters or in the office of pilgrims. The majority of pilgrims perform the pilgrimage on foot. But quite often you can meet pilgrims, overcoming the distance on bikes, at least on the horses or even donkeys. Not allowed to use public transportation when traveling along the route of the pilgrims, at least 200 kilometers before Santiago de Compostela must be overcome on their own. Only then, the pilgrim is entitled to receive the Compostela – a certificate on passing the Road to Santiago, written in Latin.

Here, we first divided: parted company with tangkou and Olga. The girls decided to go further along the trail of the pilgrims, which made his pilgrim passports and left us alone.

So, Tanya and Olya joined the movement of pilgrims, and we went on six of them. Our way laid in the glorious city of Nájera (Najera). Nájera was the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Navarre, situated on the river Najerilla (Najerilla).

The modern town grew from an ancient settlement Tritium . Renamed in Nakhara Arabs (in Arabic it means "town between the rocks"). In 923 city of león conquered the ruler of Ordono II and up to 1054, was the principal residence of the Navarran kings.

The main attraction of the town is the Church of Santa Maria La real, where the tombs of the medieval kings of Navarre, Castile and Leon, and later Earls and Dukes of Najera.

Due to the fact that Najera is one of the points of the Camino de Santiago - way of St. James that we owe the picture of these crypts) the fact that girls Olga and Tatiana , with whom we parted two hours back in Logrono came to this place, but later us. They could not pass, for here it was necessary to put a stamp in their pilgrimage book.

Weather again was such that we sometimes did not understand what the hell we're going to Nájera. But when I arrived, it turned out that not in vain, because the town is very cute and ordered in restaurant on the Bank of Najerilla, paella was delicious. And we even warmed in the sun, which again we were pleased with its appearance.

Then we had a throw to the picturesque accommodations along the river with beautiful bridges and hydroelectric power plants. Decided that everyone will go at their own pace, and we stand in front of the town of Mansilla de La Sierra, on the banks of vodohranilishe.

The picturesque road lay through the gorge of the mountain massif De La Demanda.

Sierra de La Demandais part of the Iberian system mountains.

The highest point is mount San Lorenzo (2271 m). The array in the most part is located in the West of La Rioja and the Eastern part of the province of Burgos. Second tallest mountain is San Millán (2131 m), it is the highest point in the province of Burgos.

As is usually padaliste and powerful guys have gone far ahead. And the most leisurely formed aregard. In the beginning it consisted mainly of Julia and Igor. But this made a lot of beautiful pictures of different places that our moose foot slipped at speed. Ilya had to leave his girlfriend behind a column hoping that will not leave her one) But she sometimes woke up a second wind and it blew many of us - especially on a flat road.

Leaders (you know who) again broke away from the main group. I followed them out so quickly, passed the place where they've stopped for the night. To admit, they are not very well noted on a Bush hung the case from a backpack, next threw the foam and something else. Passing by, I just wondered why in Spain is so much garbage and I had hoped that the guys get to choose the place cleaner. Only when the reservoir ended, and began the fork in the road, I realized that something is wrong.

And then I had to go, and in the end, everyone on the speedometer was 100 and I 110.

But Parking was great, right on the lake, in which, despite the cold water, many immediately climbed to bathe and wash.
